Nottingham Forest forward, Taiwo Awoniyi will spend around two months on the sidelines due to groin injury.

The 25-year-old has been sidelined since copping the injury in Forest’s 1-0 away win against Southampton at the St Mary’s Stadium on January 4.

Mandonga Knocks Out Wanyonyi on 5th Round

Mandonga Knocks Out Wanyonyi on 5th Round

Tanzania boxer Karim ‘Mtu Kazi’ Mandonga knocks out seasoned Kenyan Daniel Wanyonyi at the KICC Ball Room in Nairobi Sunday morning.

The match, which was billed as a showdown between two, lived up to its hype as Mandonga came out swinging from the opening bell.

Wanyonyi, known for his powerful punches and aggressive style, started on a slow note, and Mandonga’s superior speed and relentlessness allowed him to dominate him from start to end.

As the fight wore on, Mandonga gained the upper hand, landing several clean hooks to Wanyonyi’s head and body.

From the start of the fight, it was clear that Mandonga was the dominant force, landing heavy punches and displaying superior technique.

Wanyonyi, despite putting up a valiant effort, was unable to withstand the relentless onslaught and was knocked off in the fifth round.

To the disappointment of the crowd, in the fifth round, Mandonga landed devastating hooks on Wanyonyi who then refused to come back for the sixth round, effectively handing the victory to Mandonga.

The victory was a huge one for Mandonga, who solidified his position as one of the top fighters and potentially set up a future title shot.

Speaking after the match, Mandonga defended his hype for the match saying it is key in making the game lively.

He said he will back to Kenya for another fight promising to floor the opponent again.

“Mdomo ni ya kupiga promo, nikiingia ulingo iko nafasi ya ngumi,” Mandonga said.

“Narudi tena Nairobi, Kenya hii Aprili ‘kumzika mtu’, raundi ya kwanza kaburi lake liko wapi? Muwekeni pale! Nitakuja na ngumi nyingine, sio Sugunyo tena.”

We congratulate Wanyonyi for putting up a fight against the self-hyped Mandonga. Even though he lost the match, he played his part. And as a sportsman, he fully understands that in any given competition, there is always a winner and a loser.
